Sending Parcels with Brighton Couriers: Your Questions Answered

Sending Parcels with Brighton Couriers: Your Questions Answered

Whether you are sending an important document, a business parcel, a pallet or a shipment overseas, finding a courier service you can rely on is essential. From making sure your goods are packaged correctly to understanding customs requirements, there are several things to consider before your shipment leaves your hands.

At Brighton Couriers, we work with leading express delivery providers to arrange local, UK-wide and international deliveries for both individuals and businesses.

Below, we answer some of the common questions customers have when arranging a courier delivery.

What Can Brighton Couriers Deliver?

We offer a range of courier and transportation options to suit different types and sizes of consignments.

Our services include:

  • Document deliveries

  • Parcel deliveries

  • Pallet transportation

  • Nationwide UK deliveries

  • International shipping

  • Express courier services

Whether you need to send something occasionally or require a dependable delivery solution for your business, we can help you find a service that meets your requirements.

How Do I Package a Parcel Correctly?

Good packaging can make a significant difference to the condition your goods arrive in. Parcels can pass through several stages of handling while in transit, so they should be packed securely before collection.

Choose Appropriate Packaging

Use a strong, good-quality cardboard box that is large enough for the contents without leaving excessive empty space. The packaging should also be capable of supporting the weight of the items inside.

Protect Individual Items

If your parcel contains multiple items, wrap them separately using suitable protective materials. Bubble wrap and other cushioning products can help reduce the risk of damage.

Prevent Movement Inside the Box

Goods should be positioned securely in the middle of the parcel rather than pressed against the sides. Fill any gaps with appropriate packaging material so the contents cannot move freely during transportation.

Secure the Box

Once packed, seal the parcel thoroughly using strong parcel tape. Pay particular attention to the opening and edges of the box to ensure they remain securely closed throughout transit.

Check for Previous Labels

Reusing an old box can be a convenient option, but make sure previous delivery labels and barcodes are removed or completely covered. This helps prevent your parcel from being incorrectly routed.

Make the Address Easy to Read

The delivery address should be clearly displayed on the outside of the package. If you are handwriting the details, ensure the writing is easy to read. Including a second copy of the delivery address inside the parcel can also be useful should the external label become detached.

Mark Special Requirements Clearly

Where appropriate, use suitable handling labels, such as orientation arrows for packages containing liquids or materials that need to remain upright.

Can I Send Fragile or Glass Items?

Fragile and glass goods can be sent, but they are transported at the customer's own risk.

Because parcels can be handled and moved during their journey, delicate items need to be packaged particularly carefully. Brighton Couriers cannot accept responsibility for breakages or damage to fragile goods during transit, so appropriate protective packaging is essential.

Do International Deliveries Require Customs Documentation?

Depending on where your parcel is being sent, additional documentation may be required.

For consignments travelling to non-EU destinations, including the Channel Islands, a commercial invoice is required. This provides customs authorities with important information about the shipment, including what the goods are, where they originated, their value and what they will be used for.

Providing accurate paperwork helps reduce the risk of unnecessary delays during the customs process. Four copies of the commercial invoice should accompany the shipment.

Can You Send Dangerous Goods?

Brighton Couriers does not hold the required licence to transport dangerous goods. As a result, hazardous materials and restricted items cannot be accepted for delivery.

If you are unsure whether the contents of your shipment fall into this category, speak to our team before arranging your collection. We can advise you on whether your proposed shipment can be accepted.
